ABOUT

Hana & Jessie-Lee’s Bad Habits are a Melbourne-based outfit known nationwide for their electrifying live shows, sharp lyrics, and a dynamic blend of country, rock ’n’ roll, and soul. Fronted by Hana Brenecki’s gritty, emotionally rich vocals and Jessie-Lee Zubkevych’s commanding guitar work, the band delivers a modern, genre-defying take on country music.

Formed over a decade ago by two former punk-scene musicians from Adelaide, the duo’s debut album Southlands (2017) made waves with its raw honesty, landing them festival slots at WOMADelaide, Out on the Weekend, and more, as well as support gigs for Jason Isbell, Cold Chisel, and Kasey Chambers.

Relocating to Melbourne, their sophomore album Say What You Mean (2024), recorded by ARIA-nominated producer Alexander O’Gorman, took their sound to new heights. The record won the 2024 Music Victoria Award for Best Country Work and Double J’s Tower of Song of the Year, earning praise from Australian Guitar Magazine, Rhythms, and more.

Since the album’s release, the band has performed at top festivals including Port Fairy Folk Festival, Riverboats, Queenscliff, Gympie Muster, and Tamworth Country Music Festival, touring extensively and building a devoted national following.

Closing out 2025, Hana & Jessie-Lee’s Bad Habits will support U.S. country star Nikki Lane before embarking on a 23-date national tour with Mick Thomas & The Roving Commission, sharing new material ahead of their anticipated third album.

“Incorporating country licks with great doses of soul and roots music as well, the album displays both musicians’ deft talent at weaving through influences and traditional sounds while pushing their own flavour forward.”  – Sosefina Fuamoli, The AU Review

Hana’s voice has that wonderfully lived-in, aching quality, dreamily drifting somewhere between country, soul and the blues. Next to her, Jessie-Lee’s consummate guitar playing shimmers and twangs, jangles and soars. From gentle strumming to a vibrant electric solo it’s a showcase of how to make a mark as a player and still serve the song.” – Post to Wire

“The pair and their songs are a huge asset to the Americana/Alt-Country community in Australia.” – Henry Wagons (Double J)

Say What You Mean is one of those albums that grabs you from the first note. The music feels classic, and those textured vocals with just a hint of yodel are so compelling. I can imagine listening to “Misery Queen” at a smoky bar somewhere, whiskey in hand. It’s so much fun, but there’s a darkly humourous underbelly that runs through so much of Hana & Jessie-Lee’s Bad Habits’ music.” – Lauren Katulka, Sounds of Oz
